Yes. How dare Obama bring our troops home, repeal DADT, and explain to
the American people in open and plain language that Congress is
responsible for changing the laws, while the Executive Branch executes
and enforces them?
How dare he utilize progresses in technology
that allow for remote-controlled robots that could just as easily be
equipped with cameras and microphones to record police misconduct as
they can be equipped with guns and missiles to launch military strikes?
How dare he authorize stem cell research that has revolutionized the
nature and face of modern medicine, literally changing peoples lives for
the better?
How dare Obama push for legislation that would
protect and feed starving children? How dare he support education and
job programs in the face of an obstructionist political party who are
clearly hell-bent on siphoning every dollar to the top-most levels of
wealth and blatantly push that agenda whenever possible?
If
you're looking for a perfect politician or system of Government, give me
six months and a $20,000 advance and I'll write you a
professional-quality political Sci-Fi novel. Expecting any Politician to
be able to operate without engaging in, y'know, *politics* is naive
beyond reason. The entire point of Politics is to engage in compromise
and deal-making so that macro-level functionality still operates (like
social programs, infrastructure, society, etc.), even though nobody gets
everything they want. That includes Obama, who is, in fact, tied by
whatever contracts, agreements, policies, deals, and treaties that Bush2
made, even if he doesn't like or agree with them. Some of these
dealings may have come with Non-Disclosure Agreements or Clearance
Levels, meaning that the President has to smile and nod, knowing that
neither he nor any other President can do dick-all about, because as
previously mentioned, *Congress* has to change the laws, and knowing
that if he even hints at their existence he's guilty of Treason. Former
President Carter basically confirmed in an interview that there are
secrets that the President has to take to his grave. You try to tell me
that you haven't had to do things in the course of your job that you
weren't happy with, didn't feel conflicted about, or wish you didn't
have to do, and I'll call you a damn liar to your face.
Personally, I think the end to a lot of this nonsense is to start
questioning and criticizing why certain kinds of political authority
were given to Bush2 in the first place via laws like the Patriot Act and
Protect America Act, rather than freak the hell out that Obama's still
utilizing legislation that's still on the books. Consider this: if Obama
*didn't* utilize the Counter-Terror infrastructure put into place by
Bush2, how fast would the Right be attacking him for being Soft on
Terror even more than calling him a Socialist Mooslim?
If
you're looking for realistic answers for why things are still such a
mess, you might start by looking at the Republican's successful
Gerrymandering of certain states in 2010. That's the reason we're still
dealing with flaming obstructionist assholes like Bachman, Ryan, Rand,
and Boehner. I'd prefer to dig out the corrupted rot that we can plainly
see, that's clearly and obviously impeding the basic functions of
Government, before trying to topple the one guy that all of those people
seem to hate so goddamn much that they're willing to forgo any and
every other political purpose other than destroying him.
If
you're still looking for a fantasy land in which Politics is clean and
Politicians are clear-cut morally on one side or the other, my
6-month/$20,000 novel offer is still on the table.
